Who this procedure suits

The company route fits entrepreneurs who want to genuinely tap into the Brazilian domestic market: with their own company on the ground, a solid business plan and the willingness to live and do business in Brazil. Eligibility depends on your nationality, and we check it before you order. Important, and honest: this visa requires a Brazilian company. We do not form it ourselves; we coordinate it together with our local partners, licensed attorneys in each country, as part of your case, as described on our company formation page under the route of a local company in the destination country. If you would rather invest through property, the route is the investor visa through property.

And who it does not suit:

  • ✕You want to optimise your tax: with an investor visa you are tax resident in Brazil from the day you enter, with tax on worldwide income at up to 27.5%. For 0% on foreign income, Paraguay or Panama are the right places.
  • ✕You are not planning real business activity: Brazil requires a solid business plan and jobs created, and reviews the company after a few years. A letterbox company will not carry this route.
  • ✕You are looking for a status in a drawer with no presence: if you stay away from the country for more than two years at a stretch, you lose permanent residence. Brazil wants you to actually come.

Requirements

At the heart of the route is a qualifying investment in a Brazilian company. As a guide from our country research: the company route starts at BRL 500,000 of investment, combined with a solid business plan and evidence of jobs created; the authority reviews the company after a few years. We check the threshold currently in force and the resolution practice before every order for your case, because approvals are handled increasingly restrictively and depend on clean, complete documents. Then come the formalities: a valid passport, a police certificate, all foreign documents apostilled and sworn-translated into Portuguese. The proven order: apostille first, translation after, and get the police certificate last, because it expires quickly. And the quirk you need to know from the start: the visa gets you into the country; only registration with the Polícia Federal within 90 days makes you a resident.

What we take care of

  • ✓Review of your situation and the current investment threshold, before anything is ordered
  • ✓Coordination of the company formation together with our local partners, licensed attorneys in each country, aligned with the residence application
  • ✓A complete document list with an apostille and translation roadmap in the right order
  • ✓Preparation and review of every document before filing
  • ✓Filing and support by licensed local attorneys
  • ✓Support with the 90-day registration (RNM) at the Polícia Federal through to the foreigner's ID card, as a separate item in your case
  • ✓The CPF tax number and, where it applies to your setup, the digital work card (CTPS) as separate items
  • ✓Deadline tracking for keeping your status and converting to the indefinite permit
  • ✓One personal contact who coordinates the whole procedure in English

Step by step

  1. 1

    Structure before visa

We settle your tax and structure question first, because the investor visa makes you tax resident from the day you enter; this order decides the whole calculation.

  2. 2

    Set up company and investment

Our local partners form the company, and we coordinate the business plan and proof of investment so that both carry the residence application.

  3. 3

    Prepare your documents

Apostilles, sworn translations into Portuguese, the police certificate last because it expires quickly: everything reviewed before filing.

  4. 4

    Application and entry

The attorneys on the ground file and support your procedure; after entry comes registration with the Polícia Federal within 90 days, together with the CPF.

  5. 5

    Keep and build your status

We track the deadlines: hold the investment, apply for conversion to the indefinite permit in good time, and from permanent residence the clock towards the passport runs.

How long it takes

Nobody can honestly promise you a date for Brazil: the timing depends on the authority, the application route you choose and how complete your documents are, and approvals are handled increasingly restrictively. We actively manage two things: the order of the documents (police certificates and certificates of single status age faster than authorities work) and the conversion deadline, because the initially temporary permit does not renew itself; the application for the indefinite permit must be filed before it expires.

Do you need to be there in person?

The most important deadline comes first: to the Polícia Federal within 90 days of entry, otherwise even the best visa leaves you with nothing reliable in hand, no bank account, no lease, no clock running towards the passport. After that: permanent residence stays active as long as you enter at least once every two years; stay away for more than two years at a stretch and you lose it. And anyone who wants the passport lives in the country anyway, because naturalisation requires documented, continuous residence.

Family members coming with you

In Brazil your spouse or partner and children do not ride along as an annex to your investor application: they follow your status in a separate procedure in which your residence is the anchor and determines theirs. Whether and how your family comes along in your case, and which route their applications take (consulate or in the country), we check before you order.

What comes next

Permanent residence brings Brazil's real trump card into play: citizenship after four years of indefinite residence, for a passport that opens around 170 countries visa-free, including Schengen, plus Mercosur freedom of movement. The requirements are Portuguese (CELPE-Bras) and fully documented residence. The details are in our guide to Brazilian citizenship and on the Brazil country page.

What is not included

  • •Government fees and state charges in Brazil
  • •The investment itself and the formation, capital and running costs of the company (bookkeeping, company taxes)
  • •Apostilles and legalisations in your home country
  • •Sworn translations into Portuguese
  • •Notary fees
  • •Travel and living costs
  • •Private health insurance
  • •Tax advice in the destination country

Tax note

Residence is not the same as tax residence, but Brazil turns the rule around for investors: with an investor or permanent visa you are tax resident from the day you enter, with tax on worldwide income at up to 27.5% and offshore rules tightened since 2024. Moving to Brazil does not, on its own, end your tax residence at home, and whether a tax treaty with your home country helps depends on where you come from. That is why the structure and departure questions come before the visa application, not after. The background is in our Brazil guide; your individual case belongs with a tax adviser.

One point of contact, from start to finish

Your application is filed together with our local partners, licensed attorneys in each country, with whom we have worked for years. We coordinate your case, check your documents and remain your point of contact: in English, throughout.

That applies whether you are still at home or already on the road: one point of contact, no language barrier, no loose ends across four time zones.

Frequently asked questions

I do not have a Brazilian company yet. Am I out?+

No, but the visa requires one. We do not form the company ourselves; we coordinate the formation together with our local partners, licensed attorneys in each country, as part of your case and aligned with the residence application. How that works in principle is on our company formation page.

How large does the investment have to be?+

As a guide from our country research, the company route starts at BRL 500,000, combined with a business plan and jobs created. We check the threshold in force at the time you order for your case in advance, rather than relying on old figures.

When do I become taxable in Brazil?+

With an investor or permanent visa, from the day you enter, on your worldwide income at progressive rates of up to 27.5%. Whether a tax treaty with your home country helps depends on where you come from, which is why the structure question comes before the application with us.

What is the 90-day registration about?+

The visa gets you into the country, but only registration with the Polícia Federal within 90 days of entry makes you a resident with a foreigner's ID card. Without it there is no bank account, no lease and no clock running towards the passport. This registration is a separate item in your case.

Do I have to use lawyers for the procedure?+

Brazil has no general requirement to use a lawyer, unlike Panama. But approvals are handled increasingly restrictively, and on the investor route clean, complete documents decide the outcome. That is why we file together with our local partners, licensed attorneys in each country, and you keep one personal contact who coordinates everything in English.

What happens to my company after approval?+

The investment must be held and the business genuinely operated; the authority reviews it after a few years. The initially temporary permit is converted into an indefinite one if the basis still exists, and we track that deadline for you.

How quickly can I get the passport?+

As standard, after four years of indefinite residence, with proof of Portuguese and fully documented residence.
