The visitor visa for digital nomads (V Nómada) fits remote workers, freelancers and founders whose income comes from work for clients outside Colombia. Eligibility depends on your nationality, and we check it before you order. The threshold is deliberately low: three times the Colombian minimum wage, currently around USD 1,375 a month. In return you get one of the best remote bases in Latin America: fibre at 100 to 300 Mbit/s for EUR 20 to 40 a month, coworking scenes in Medellín and Bogotá, and a time zone that overlaps with clients in Europe and North America. And it solves the problem every long-term tourist has: visa-free entry is capped at a maximum of 180 days per calendar year, and visa runs do not reset that clock.
And who it does not suit:
At the heart of the application is proof of regular income from remote work for employers or clients outside Colombia, of at least three times the Colombian minimum wage (currently around USD 1,375 a month); because the minimum wage is adjusted every year, we check the current equivalent before you apply. On top of that come a valid passport, a passport photo to specification and health insurance valid for Colombia. The visa has existed since October 2022 and covers stays of up to two years. The application is mostly filed online through the foreign ministry's portal; experience shows that most rejections come from incomplete or poorly prepared documents, not from the level of income.
Thinking about a retiree visa, but no pension that moves with you?
Retiree routes require a documented monthly income. For the self-employed and business owners we build a structure for exactly that: the pension plan LLC, your own US company that you fund with a loan and that repays it to you in regular monthly instalments under a documented pension plan. It works for many retiree visas, with no minimum age; we confirm acceptance for your destination before you order.
About the pension plan LLC →We confirm whether your mix of income meets the threshold and genuinely comes from clients outside Colombia, before any costs arise.
Proof of income, passport and health insurance are prepared to the portal's specifications and reviewed by us.
Our local partners file the application through the foreign ministry's portal and answer the authority's questions.
You enter with the visa; the Check-Mig form belongs in the 72 hours before you travel, and we brief you on the steps after arrival.
Up to two years in Colombia: we track the term of your visa and plan the switch to a migrant visa in good time, if your stay turns into a life.
The application is mostly filed online through the foreign ministry's portal, which makes the procedure modern and comparatively quick by regional standards; there is no guaranteed date. The most common brake is incomplete or poorly prepared proof of income, which is why we check everything before filing. The visa itself covers stays of up to two years.
The nomad visa is Colombia's most flexible permit: it requires no minimum presence, but allows you the long stay that tourist status, with its limit of 180 days per calendar year, does not. The decisive number is a different one: from 183 days of presence in any 365-day period you become tax resident, and many people overlook this rolling count across the turn of the year. If you want to stay below the threshold, count your days, do not estimate them; we go through this with you before you travel.
Whether, and on what terms, your spouse or partner and children can come along as beneficiaries of your nomad visa is something we check for your situation before you order, and we confirm the terms with you in advance; dependants are not set up as a separate item in this product. If you are planning a permanent family life in Colombia anyway, a migrant visa for the whole family is often the more honest route, and we are happy to compare it for you.
The most important point last, because competitors like to leave it out: the nomad years do not count towards residence. If your stay turns into a life, you switch to a migrant visa, for example as an investor or pensionado, and only then does the five-year clock towards the resident visa start. We plan the switch with you in good time. What nomad life on the ground really feels like is in our article on living in Colombia and on the Colombia country page.
Residence is not the same as tax residence, and a visa is neither: the nomad visa does not automatically make you a tax resident; the 183-day rule alone decides. If you stay below it, you pay no Colombian tax on foreign income, but you should document your non-residence properly; if you are above it, you pay tax on your worldwide income. Whether a tax treaty with your home country helps depends on where you come from. The mechanics are in our guide to the Colombia residence permit.
Your application is filed together with our local partners, licensed attorneys in each country, with whom we have worked for years. We coordinate your case, check your documents and remain your point of contact: in English, throughout.
That applies whether you are still at home or already on the road: one point of contact, no language barrier, no loose ends across four time zones.

No. It is a visitor visa (V) and does not count towards residence. For the route to the resident visa and the passport you need a migrant visa, for example as an investor or pensionado; we plan the switch with you in good time.
No. Visa-free entry is capped at a maximum of 180 days per calendar year, and short trips out do not reset that clock. Overstays bring fines and trouble on future entries. That is exactly the problem the nomad visa solves.
Not automatically. The only deciding factor is the 183-day rule over a rolling 365-day period. If you stay below it, you pay no Colombian tax on foreign income; if you are above it, you pay tax on your worldwide income. Count your days rather than estimating them.
The visa requires income from remote work for employers or clients outside Colombia. For local work it is the wrong category, and if you want to mix the two, talk to us first about the right structure.
Excellent in the big cities: fibre at 100 to 300 Mbit/s costs EUR 20 to 40 a month, there are plenty of coworking spaces in Medellín and Bogotá, and the time zone overlaps with Europe and North America.
Whether dependants can be included as beneficiaries of your nomad visa, we check for your case before you order and confirm the terms with you in advance. For a permanent family life, a migrant visa is often the more honest route.
